10-Pack High-Speed CMOS 16-Channel Analog Multiplexer Multifunction Switch

This is a convenient 16-channel analog/digital multiplexing/demultiplexing CD74HC4067 breakout board. The chip functions like a rotary switch, internally routing a common pin (COM in the schematic, SIG on the board) to one of 16 channel pins (CHAN0–CHAN15). It supports both digital and analog signals (voltage must not exceed VCC) and can be connected in either direction. To control it, connect four digital outputs to the chip’s address select pins (S0–S3) and send the binary address of the desired channel (refer to the datasheet for details). This allows up to 16 sensors to be connected to a system using only five pins. Since the multiplexer/demultiplexer supports digital signals, it can route TTL-level serial data to multiple devices. For example, it can connect the TX pins of up to 16 devices to a single RX pin on a microcontroller, allowing selection of any one device to receive data. For two-way communication, a second board can be used to route the microcontroller’s TX line to the RX lines of the 16 devices. Multiple boards can also be configured for protocols such as I2C or SPI. The internal switches are bidirectional, support voltages between ground and VCC, feature low on-resistance and low off-leakage current, and perform break-before-make switching to prevent crosstalk. The board also exposes the chip’s enable pin; driving it high disconnects the common pin (all switches off).
