Policosanol from FEPA is a food supplement that helps in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Policosanol presents the same mechanism of action as that described for statins (used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia): they block cholesterol synthesis, therefore, it reduces the levels of cholesterol that our body synthesizes. This extract is isolated from the wax that coats the surface of the stem of the sugar cane. In the plant kingdom, these waxes constitute the most superficial layer that covers and protects the fruit integuments, stems and leaves. Therefore, they are usually ingested in diets in which fruits and vegetables are consumed entirely. It is recommended to take with a large glass of water.
